i left the org slightly before the change in the "generation that was alive in 1914" thing was announced and wondered, what were peoples in the congregations reactions after this was announced and did it you notice people falling away because of it?
has it had a damaging effect?
I wasn't at that meeting. My bookstudy conductor came by after the meeting to make sure we had the mags and that we had read the article (I hadn't read it). He tried to explain the change, but I didn't understand at the time what he was saying. He couldn't really explain it to me, said I'd just have to read it for myself. At the time I didn't really care to look into it any further.

Yes, I heard this too. In fact, the first Sunday after my fathers funeral, we were late for the meeting, and had to sit in the front row. This is what the talk was about! I felt so sorry for that brother, with my step mother sitting right in front of him, and having to give this talk just days after my fathers funeral.
This was something that always bothered my step mother. She misses my dad so much, but knows (according to the WTS) that her relationship will not be the same in the NS. Also, who would he choose to be with when he was ressurected? Her or his first wife?
This used to bother me as well, I would picture us sitting at the kitchen table, eating supper, my step mom, my dad, and half bro and sis. My mother would be standing outside the window looking in at us. It was always so hard for me to wrap this around my little head - what would my family be like in the NS? There were so many senarios I would play over and over in my head, and in every one, someone got hurt.

we all started off as happy witnesses, except for those dragged into this religion by force as kids.. in my case, i found that there were way too many meetings.
then seeing the new system being constantly pushed back, and finally when i saw a lack of true love in the congregation.
and when they hinted that probably there wouldn't be any sex and marriage for the resurrected ones.
The last straw was seeing my brother disfellowshipped under circumstances where he should have recieved love from the shephards he trusted. When he was told that he was found repentant but still needed to be punished by disfellowhipping and serve his sentence something inside me died.

I know how you feel, the same thing happened to my brother. He was the one that went to the elders, they had no idea what was happening within the cong. My brother was remorseful, wanted to clean up his act, but because he knew that the elders daughter was doing some of the same things my brother was, he was DF'd.
There are so many points brought out by others on here that seem to strike a similar chord with me. It seems many of us have had the same feelings. Just too much was expected, it never seemed good enough.

we had him in our circuit around a year ago.
he was a very arrogant pianist/circuit overseer.
he came along when i was starting to have strong doubts and after his visits i had no choice but to pursue my doubts.

I don't think I ever really had "joy".
This is what I recently tried to convey to my mother. Everything I did, I did because I had to, not because I wanted to. You had to go out in service, you had to attend meetings, assemblies etc. I don't recall too many times where I actually wanted to go to a meeting. But I did all those things on the outside, and there was no joy inside.
As long as you are putting on the "apperance" of doing what you are supposed to be doing, everything must be ok.

i understand from a previous that elders burst into a women's home in las vegas,and elders entered into a sda church in tasmania,demanding to see someone.. has they been other actions like that?
A friend of mine told me that there have been JW's that have come to her church, sit and listen to the sermon and then afterwards go up to the pastor and try and tell him everything that he said was wrong.

does anybody remember when the wtbts ask all the congregations to bring back all the old outdated books.
i think it was in the late eighties.
there was an announcement from the podium, return old books so they could be returned to new york.. i was too lazy to go through my books and take them in.
I don't remember any announcment to that fact in my area. I do remember an announcment stating that if you have old books, that they should be disposed of because of the "old" light. My mother went though my dad's library (he had tons of old books) and got rid of quite a few. She had duplicates of quite a lot of books/bound volumes from over the years and she tried to give them to the hall for the libraries and the elders told her to throw them out.

this coming from a person raised "in the truth".. recently i shared a scripture with my sister - she is ill and will have to have some pretty serious surgery.
i shared isa 53:4,5 with her.
